Our performance project for the Isle of Ely Arts Festival 2018 was “The Running Hare”, a new one-hour show combining contemporary dance and poetry. The title comes from the book by farmer and writer John Lewis-Stempel and it fitted like a glove with the Arts Festival’s theme for 2018, “Flora and Fauna”. We collaborated with Kate Caiomhe Arthur, the current Fenland Poet Laureate, who read her new poem “Saint Melangell and the Hare, which we commissioned. Ely-based recorder virtuoso Philip Mizen played the intensely difficult “Music for a Bird” by Hans Martin Linde. The dance programme was in three sections, “The Field”, “The River” and “The Running Hare”. Music by “contemporary classical” composers Yann Tiersen, Nils Frahm and Eric Whitacre. Thanks to all who attended!
